Cuidados Intensivos

Today's blog post is going to be short and sweet! :) I was able to observe the Intensive Care Unit at the hospital today, but didn't do much patient care.  Here in Panama they are very concerned with nosocomial infections, so anyone working in the ICU has to wear a special set of scrubs.  Also, they limit family visiting hours to approximately 15 mins per day, in hopes to limit the spread of infection.  I spent the majority of my day talking with the interns, (who spoke English again, woohoo!), about the care of the patients, equipment they use, and procedures they follow throughout the day.  I learned tons of new things, and really enjoyed the ICU setting. Tomorrow, I will be placed in the Emergency room, and will have the opportunity for lots of hands-on experience!

XOXO, Jenny
