Today is Sunday and I was able to sleep in! I only slept
until 9:30 but it was nice not having to wake up at a specific time, since that
is how the majority of the rest of my trip will be. After eating breakfast and
lunch at home, the bus took us to La Arena to shop and look around. La Arena is
located in Chitré. It is a small strip of shops
where Panamanians sell items they make.
La Arena is known for its handmade, clay ceramics. There were quite a few people shopping around
while we there. I ran into a few stray
dogs while shopping, and my heart just breaks for them! It is very common to
see stray dogs and cats running around town, and they are usually covered in
flies, have open wounds and are very skinny.
It’s so sad to see!
After La Arena, we went to the mall in Chitré. Compared to the surrounding area, the mall is
very nice! It had three stories, lots of stores and even wifi! There was also a food court like our malls
back home, which even had McDonalds and Subway! I didn’t end up buying anything
at the mall. After, we went to dinner on
top of a mountain! We had such an awesome view from our table. The restaurant was almost like a sports bar type
atmosphere, and was outside. The
restaurant was called Restaurante El Mirado.
They had a variety of foods like chicken fingers and fish, but I ended
up ordering a salad with rice.
We went to the grocery store again after dinner and stocked up for the week!

I am looking forward to my first day in the Health Clinics tomorrow!
I’m not exactly sure what to expect, but I’m excited to start the hands-on work
I came here for!
XOXO, Jenny
