Today marks my two-week anniversary here in Panama! Looking
back, I can’t believe it’s gone so fast.
This morning we went to a local Elementary school in Chitré,
and taught the children different activities in Spanish. I taught 5th grade about the food
pyramid, and benefits of healthy portions at each meal. We also taught sun protection, values, hand
washing and played many games. All of
the children had such a ball. They were
so grateful we came to spend the morning with them. One sweet girl even gave me a kiss on the
cheek when we left, and thanked me for coming. It was so precious!
After the school we went back home to pack for our trip to
El Valle de Anton this weekend! On our way we stopped by a McDonalds, and of
course, I couldn’t resist! I got French fries and an Oreo McFlurry, which
totally made my day. It’s the closest
thing to anything American I can find here in Panama! We made it to El Valle in
about three hours! The scenery was beautiful along the way. It is a very mountainous region with a small
town in a valley down below. While
driving up the mountain, my ears popped the entire way, which is something I’m
definitely not used to! Since I have never seen actual mountains before, I
wasn’t quite sure what to expect but was amazed at what I saw. Our hotel is in
the center of the valley, and the view from my window is breathtaking! We got
settled in our hotel room tonight. There
is no air conditioning, but the whether is much cooler here, so it is really
not needed. Our hotel even has hot
water, something I haven’t even experienced since I’ve been in Panama, and
pretty much the best thing ever!!!! There is also wifi here on the rooftop of
our hotel. The rooftop has many hammocks
and gives a great view of the surrounding area; it’s very relaxing up there!
This weekend is like a mini vacay for me, since I’ve have been running non-stop
ever since I landed in Panama City. It’s definitely much needed!
Tomorrow morning I’m going hiking on the Sleeping Indian
Mountain! I’ve never been hiking before, but am so excited to try it out! The
hike is supposed to last about four to five hours, let’s hope I can make it
that far, ha! Since we are only in El Valle until Sunday, I have to cram in as
many activities as I can. After hiking,
I’m going zip lining through the rainforest, which is another first for me!
I’m super excited about all my adventures tomorrow! I’ll let
you know how they go! Wish me luck :) (P.S- this blog post was meant to be posted on Friday, but I didn’t have a good
internet connection, so it’s a day late, oops!)
XOXO, Jenny
