Today was my first day at the health clinic here in Chitré. The clinic
is called Centro de Salud de Monagrillo.
Everyone was very welcoming when we arrived. I was placed in the pediatric section of the
clinic and was able to work with tiny kiddos all day! I was in heaven, for
sure! :) I spent
most of the day weighing the babies, measuring their length, and also measuring
their head circumference. It was
slightly difficult to communicate because everyone, once again, only spoke Spanish.
After the health clinic, we were able to come home and change quickly
then went to the Universidad de Panama.
There we met the director of the university, he thanked us for coming to
Panama to help out, and also wished us a great experience. It is a pretty big thing in Panama that
students from a Florida university visit, so the newspaper crew was there and
others from the university to take pictures of us. Here is a picture of our
group with the President of the university:
We ended up eating lunch in the cafeteria at the university then had
class afterwards, which was basically just an introduction of what is to come
in the next few weeks. A typical weekday
for me will be heading to the clinic in the morning, eating lunch at home, and
then heading to the Universidad de Panama for our class meeting. I am excited to see what tomorrow has in
store for me at the clinic again. We
will be rotating throughout the different departments while we are here to
experience the different areas! Until next time... chao!
XOXO, Jenny
