Today I traveled to Playa el Uverito, also known as, the
beach! It was about an hour drive from where I’m staying in Chitré. Along the way, the scenery was beautiful,
filled with mountains, and countryside. Horses and cows filled the large pastures, and
I would have never imagined I was going to the beach by traveling on the roads
we did. I was anxious to see the beach,
and wondered how it would compare to all the beaches I am familiar with back
home. When we got there, I was amazed at
how beautiful it was! The beach houses were nothing like I am used to, but were
dressed with color and tons of character! The sand was scorching hot; it hurt
to walk on without my shoes. It wasn’t
powdery, instead it was gritty and in some places I began to sink if I stood
there for too long. The beach was located on the Pacific Ocean, which I had
never seen before! The water was warm, but filled with giant rocks so it was
hard to move around without stubbing my toes.
The tides roll in quickly here, so I frequently moved my towel farther
and farther up the beach as the hours passed.
We ate lunch on the beach at Rincón Del Faro. I must admit; the service here in Panama
stinks! Don’t expect to eat at restaurant, until about an hour or two after you
order. It even takes quite a while to
get drinks! Anyway, I’ve noticed here that people seem more carefree and
relaxed than us Americans. They don’t
run on a time schedule, and do things when they please, and I must admit, I
kinda like that!
A storm blew in towards the middle of the afternoon, so we
ended up packing up our things and making the trek back home.
Overall, I had such a relaxing day, and it was definitely
much needed! I feel recharged and ready to start week two here in Panama! I
will be traveling to the hospitals this week for clinicals, and excited to see
what they are like here! Wish me luck!
This is where we ate lunch, Rincón Del Faro!
XOXO, Jenny
